“Frozen Calm”
2D- Work - 2024
This project was an assignment in the 2D course. We had to reproduce a still life while adhering to the technical and graphic constraints of the project:
- To be created exclusively in Illustrator;
- Colorimetry: CMYK;
- Format: A4 full-border colors;
- Based on an existing template;
- Required use of gradient mesh;
- Use of clipping and opacity masks.
A still life is a painting that depicts inanimate objects or beings.
Image source
1 - Inspiration
Before starting the design, we had to search for inspiration to get a general idea of the work to be done and how to do it. We had to take all the images we found relevant to the subject and then create our own.
Here are some examples of what I used:
2 - Creation - Forms
First, I had to recreate the shapes present in the source image. To do this, I took the pen and went back over the model to get the same shapes.
3 - Creation - Gradients
Then, I created the gradient meshes to copy the source image as closely as possible. It was complicated to manage the colors because the mesh was very sensitive, as soon as we added a line, a color or a point, it changed a lot and it took great care to be as precise and realistic as possible.
