“Strings and Lights”

2D- Poster - 2024

This project was an assignment in the 2D class. We had to create a poster for a puppet show while adhering to various technical and graphic constraints:

  • Text on the poster must be mandatory;
  • Techniques covered in class must be used;
  • Color gradients;
  • Custom brushes (the stars);
  • Respect the theme;
  • To be created exclusively in Photoshop;
  • Colorimetry: CMYK;
  • Format: A4, full-color, portrait orientation;
  • A space reserved for sponsors is required.

“The Curious Eye” is a socially engaged puppet show for adults that evokes a world subject to Big Brother-style totalitarian surveillance.

I wanted to create a dark atmosphere, with the feeling of being constantly watched, and also to remind people of the show that would be performed, namely the puppets.

2 - Creation - Observation

Then it was time to create this poster. As mentioned before, I wanted to create a strange, uneasy atmosphere and for that, I used a red and orange gradient for the totalitarian side of the regime. I used a camera for the control that Big Brother has in the book, leader of a totalitarian party but also to make us feel observed as in the play.

3 - Creation - Puppets

To remind the show, I put a puppet theater with 2 puppets, I put the shape of a woman and a soldier to correspond to the universe of the book 1984 but I left them in black as well as the theater so that they can represent any puppet and keep a little suspense on the puppets and the theater while revealing part of the story.

4 - Creation - Lock

For the edge of the lock, which can represent the door, I put it in black to contrast well with the red background and so that we understand the shape of the lock. It is also a color associated with the totalitarian regime. I put stars to say that from the outside, it can seem beautiful and attractive while the inside is worse than that and life is really controlled. It is to show that we are put stars in our eyes to hide the reality.
